Dane Whitehouse was a one-club Sheffield United player and one of the Blades’ most exciting wide men of the early 1990s. A left winger who could also fill in at left-back, he came through the youth ranks and spent his whole senior career at Bramall Lane, making 278 appearances and scoring 51 goals in all competitions. He played a part in United’s rise to the top flight and became especially remembered for goals in Steel City derbies and for his contribution to the 1992–93 FA Cup run. His career was later badly disrupted by serious leg and knee injuries, which forced an early retirement.
