Sheffield United’s 2022–23 promotion was built on consistency and resilience. Under Paul Heckingbottom, the Blades finished second in the Championship with 91 points, securing an automatic return to the Premier League after a two-year absence. Promotion was confirmed on 26 April 2023 with a 2–0 win over West Bromwich Albion at Bramall Lane, a result that guaranteed they would finish in the top two with three games to spare. Iliman Ndiaye and Oli McBurnie were the joint top scorers in all competitions with 15 each, and the campaign also included a run to the FA Cup semi-finals. It felt like a composed, deserved promotion rather than a late scramble.
