The 4–2 victory over Denmark national football team at Hampden Park in November 2021 is considered one of Scotland’s best performances of the modern era. Going into the match, Denmark had won all nine of their previous World Cup qualifiers and had conceded just one goal, making them one of Europe’s strongest sides. Scotland national football team produced an outstanding display to end Denmark’s perfect record. John Souttar opened the scoring on his international return before Che Adams added a second. Denmark fought back to level the match at 2–2, but Scotland responded brilliantly through a Ryan Fraser strike and an own goal forced by relentless pressure. The win secured Scotland second place in their qualifying group and confirmed a place in the World Cup play-offs. More importantly, it reinforced the belief growing under manager Steve Clarke. Hampden generated a superb atmosphere, and many supporters saw the result as proof that Scotland could compete with elite European nations. The match became a symbol of Scotland’s resurgence after qualification for UEFA Euro 2020 and laid important foundations for the team’s eventual return to the World Cup stage.
