Manuel Neuer’s time at Schalke 04 (youth → 2011) is where he became elite. He came through Schalke’s academy, broke into the first team in 2006, and quickly stood out for reflexes, 1v1 bravery, and how comfortable he was with the ball at his feet—early hints of the “sweeper-keeper” style he’d perfect later. His signature Schalke moment was the 2011 Champions League run to the semi-finals, with huge performances (notably vs Inter). That season he also won the DFB-Pokal before moving to Bayern Munich in 2011.
