Cristiano Ronaldo had one of his greatest Champions League campaigns in 2016–17 with Real Madrid. He finished as top scorer with 12 goals, but what made it special was his knockout dominance. Ronaldo scored a hat-trick vs Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals and another hat-trick vs Atlético Madrid in the semi-finals. In the final against Juventus, he netted two goals in a 4–1 win, becoming the first player to score in three UCL finals. It was the ultimate “big game” Ronaldo season and key to Madrid’s back-to-back titles.
