The “flute” incident refers to a notorious moment involving Paul Gascoigne during a high-profile Old Firm match at Ibrox Stadium in 1998. Playing for Rangers against Celtic, Gascoigne celebrated a goal by miming playing a flute. The gesture was widely interpreted as mocking Irish republican symbolism associated with some Celtic supporters. It caused immediate controversy, drawing criticism from politicians, media, and football authorities.
