1990–91
Rangers, managed by Graeme Souness, won the Scottish Premier Division, finishing 2 points ahead of Aberdeen after a dramatic final day. They also lifted the League Cup, defeating Celtic 2–1 in the final. However, their Scottish Cup run ended in the quarter-finals, and they made little impact in Europe.
1991–92
After Souness departed late in the season, Walter Smith stepped up and guided Rangers to another league title, their fourth in a row. They reached the Scottish Cup final but lost to Airdrie, and exited the League Cup early. This season cemented the start of Smith’s hugely successful era.
