1985–86
Rangers endured a disappointing season, finishing 5th in the Scottish Premier Division under Jock Wallace. They struggled for consistency in the league and failed to win silverware, falling further behind Celtic and Aberdeen.
1986–87
A turning point came with the arrival of Graeme Souness as player-manager. His appointment sparked the “Souness Revolution,” attracting big-name signings like Terry Butcher, Chris Woods, and Graham Roberts. Rangers won the league title, their first since 1977–78, and reached the League Cup final, losing to Celtic. This season marked the rebirth of Rangers as a dominant force in Scottish football.
