Terry Venables managed QPR from 1980 to 1984 and built one of the club’s finest sides. After first playing for Rangers in the late 1960s, he returned as manager and quickly made an impact. He led QPR to the 1982 FA Cup final, losing to Tottenham after a replay, then won the Second Division title in 1982–83. Back in the First Division, Rangers finished 5th in 1983–84 and qualified for Europe. Venables’ QPR played clever, technical football, with players such as Clive Allen, Simon Stainrod, John Gregory and Glenn Roeder key to the team.
