Gordon Jago managed QPR from 1971 to 1974 and helped lay the foundations for one of the club’s strongest eras. He inherited a talented side and gave important roles to players such as Stan Bowles, Gerry Francis, Dave Thomas and Don Givens. In 1972–73, Jago led Rangers to promotion from the Second Division, finishing runners-up behind Burnley. His team played attractive, attacking football and quickly adapted to the First Division. Although he left in 1974, much of the side he shaped went on to finish 2nd in the top flight in 1975–76 under Dave Sexton.
