Joey Barton captained QPR during a turbulent Premier League period after joining in 2011. Combative and technically capable, he brought experience and intensity, but his spell was mixed. His most infamous moment came on the final day of 2011–12, when he was sent off against Manchester City as QPR narrowly survived relegation. After a loan at Marseille, he returned and played a key role in the 2013–14 promotion campaign, starting the play-off final win over Derby. Barton divided opinion, but he was an important figure in QPR’s 2014 return to the Premier League.
