Joël Bats was one of PSG’s first truly authoritative goalkeepers, a figure of calm and seriousness in the club’s early rise. He joined in 1985 and immediately helped PSG win their first French league title in 1985–86, becoming the starting keeper throughout the rest of his playing spell in Paris. He was not a flamboyant goalkeeper; his style was about assurance, positioning, reflexes, and command. That steadiness mattered for a club still building its identity. Bats feels like one of those foundational PSG names: not flashy, but deeply important, a goalkeeper who gave the team credibility and helped anchor one of its first great sides.
