David Nugent was one of Preston North End’s standout strikers of the 2000s. Joining from Bury in 2005, he quickly became known for sharp movement, pace and instinctive finishing. His best period came under Paul Simpson, when Preston regularly challenged near the top of the Championship. Nugent scored heavily in the 2005–06 and 2006–07 seasons, helping the club reach the play-offs and earning an England call-up. In 2007, he famously scored just seconds into his England debut against Andorra. His form at Deepdale later earned him a move to Portsmouth, but he remains one of Preston’s most popular modern forwards.
