Billy Davies managed Preston North End FC from 2004 to 2006 and oversaw one of the club’s strongest modern periods. Organised, demanding and tactically sharp, Davies built a difficult side to beat around players like David Nugent, David Healy, Paul McKenna and Claude Davis. Preston reached the Championship play-offs in both 2004–05 and 2005–06. The 2005 campaign was especially memorable, with North End reaching the play-off final in Cardiff before losing to West Ham United. Davies’ teams were disciplined, aggressive and highly competitive, helping re-establish Preston as serious promotion contenders during the mid-2000s.
