Harry Redknapp managed Portsmouth across two spells between 2002 and 2008, overseeing one of the most successful periods in the club’s modern history; he guided Pompey to the First Division title in 2002–03, returning them to the top flight after 15 years, and after a controversial spell at Southampton returned to Fratton Park in 2005, first saving Portsmouth from relegation and then establishing them in the Premier League; backed by ambitious recruitment, Redknapp assembled a side featuring Sol Campbell, David James, Nwankwo Kanu and Jermain Defoe, culminating in Portsmouth winning the 2008 FA Cup, before he departed for Tottenham Hotspur later that year.
