Alan Rough became one of Partick Thistle’s greatest-ever goalkeepers after coming through the club’s youth ranks, making more than 600 appearances during a remarkable spell from 1969 to 1982; still a teenager, Rough was in goal for the legendary 4–1 League Cup final victory over Celtic in 1971, and his outstanding performances subsequently made him Scotland’s first-choice goalkeeper, earning 53 international caps and representing his country at three World Cups.
