Glaswegian goalkeeper Alan Rough arrived at Firhill in 1969 and made his debut at the end of 1969–70. Over the next 13 seasons he became Partick Thistle’s all-time appearance record holder, playing well over 600 matches (including 409 league games) and rarely missing a week. A fearless shot-stopper and cult hero, “Roughie” was synonymous with Thistle through the 1970s. His defining moment was the 1971 Scottish League Cup Final, where Thistle stunned Celtic 4–1 with Rough a key figure. He left for Hibernian in 1982, and later returned to Thistle as a director.
