Alan Archibald is “Mr Partick Thistle” in modern times: a Firhill youth product who made 423 appearances across two playing spells, captained the club, and helped drive John Lambie’s back-to-back title wins (Second Division 2000–01, First Division 2001–02) that took Thistle back to the top flight. He then became manager in 2013 (initially interim after Jackie McNamara left), won promotion that spring, and kept Thistle in the Premiership for five straight seasons, peaking with a top-six finish in 2016–17 (their best since 1980). After relegation in 2018 he was kept on, but was sacked on 6 Oct 2018. He later returned as assistant and was inducted into Thistle’s Hall of Fame (2022).
