Tony Woodcock became a key figure in Nottingham Forest’s golden era after emerging through the club’s youth system, flourishing under Brian Clough and Peter Taylor as a quick, skilful and versatile forward; he helped Forest sensationally win the First Division title and League Cup in 1977–78, was named PFA Young Player of the Year, and then played a major role in their 1979 European Cup triumph, starting the 1–0 final victory over Malmö in Munich; Woodcock also established himself as an England international during his time at the City Ground before joining Bundesliga side 1. FC Köln in 1979.
