Brian Clough and Peter Taylor formed one of English football’s most effective partnerships, defined by clear division of roles. Clough was the dominant manager: intense man-management, simple messaging, ruthless standards, and total belief. Taylor was the talent-spotter and squad builder, identifying players who fit the system and the dressing-room culture. Together at Nottingham Forest (Taylor joining in 1976), they turned a Second Division side into champions: promotion, the 1977–78 First Division title, League Cups, and back-to-back European Cups in 1979 and 1980. Their relationship later fractured, but their combined impact remains legendary.
