John Robertson was Nottingham Forest’s decisive European Cup wide man under Clough/Taylor. In 1979 (Munich), he beat his full-back on the left and supplied the cross for Trevor Francis’ close-range headed winner against Malmö. In 1980 (Madrid), Robertson scored the only goal of the final against Hamburg, as Forest retained the trophy back-to-back. Those two actions—create the 1979 winner, score the 1980 winner—are central to why he’s viewed as Forest’s defining European Cup match-winner.
