Viv Anderson was a landmark figure for Nottingham Forest and English football. A quick, composed right-back, he became a key starter in the Clough/Taylor era, combining tight 1v1 defending with constant overlap support. Anderson won major honours with Forest including the First Division title (1977–78), European Cups (1979, 1980), and League Cups (1978, 1979). He also made history in 1978 by becoming the first Black player to represent England at senior level, a breakthrough moment that added to his standing beyond the City Ground.
