Norman Whiteside won 38 caps and scored 9 goals for Northern Ireland, offering power, touch and composure as a forward/attacking midfielder. He made his international debut at the 1982 World Cup, aged 17 years 41 days against Yugoslavia—still the youngest player ever to appear in a World Cup finals match. Whiteside also played at Mexico 1986, scoring in the opener against Algeria (1–1). His signature NI moment was a 1983 winner in a famous 1–0 victory over West Germany.
