Steven Davis (born 1985) is Northern Ireland’s record appearance-maker, earning 140 caps and scoring 13 goals between 2005 and 2022. A calm, press-resistant central midfielder, he became the side’s on-field organiser—setting tempo, keeping possession moving, and providing leadership over multiple qualifying cycles. He captained Northern Ireland for long spells (the Irish FA notes he wore the armband 82 times) and led the team at Euro 2016, where they reached the last 16. Davis retired from playing in January 2024.
