Andy Carroll is a local lad who came through Newcastle United’s academy and broke into the first team in the late 2000s. His breakout was 2010–11: he became the focal-point striker, smashed in goals (including a hat-trick in the 6–0 win vs Aston Villa), and earned England recognition. In January 2011 Newcastle accepted Liverpool’s £35m bid—a British-record fee at the time—ending his first spell. He returned in August 2019 on a free, but injuries limited him; he scored once in his second stint and left in 2021.
