Davie Cooper joined Motherwell in August 1989 from Rangers for £50,000, looking for regular football again under Tommy McLean. He made an instant impact (including a League Cup debut at Kilmarnock) and went on to play 157 games for the Steelmen, scoring 17 goals. Cooper was a key creative force in the club’s greatest modern day: the 1990–91 Scottish Cup win, when Motherwell beat Dundee United 4–3 after extra-time in a classic final. After his death in March 1995, Fir Park’s Davie Cooper Stand was named in his honour (opened May 1995).
