Jack Charlton was one of the most important managers in Middlesbrough history. Appointed in 1973 for his first managerial job, he transformed Boro almost immediately, leading them to the Second Division title in 1973–74 and promotion to the top flight by a huge margin. Middlesbrough’s own history marks that season as a record-breaking title win, while Charlton also won England’s Manager of the Year award in his first season. He kept Boro competitive in the First Division and later added 1975–76 Anglo-Scottish Cup. More than trophies, he gave the club belief, identity and momentum, which is why he remains one of Boro’s defining post-war figures.
