Éric Cantona’s Marseille stint (late 1980s/early 1990s) was talented, tense, and trophy-backed. He joined Olympique de Marseille as a young, explosive forward and was part of title-winning squads, with the club credited with two Ligue 1 championships (1988–89 and 1990–91) during his time on their books. But his relationship with the club wasn’t always smooth: he had loan spells away (notably to FC Girondins de Bordeaux and Montpellier HSC) and never fully became the long-term Velodrome idol his ability suggested.
