Michael Owen at Liverpool (1996–2004) was a blisteringly fast, ice-cold finisher who turned through-balls into goals. Breaking through as a teenager, he became the face of Liverpool’s attack in the late 90s/early 2000s with sharp off-the-shoulder movement and ruthless one-on-ones. His defining Liverpool season was 2000–01, when he scored two late goals to win the FA Cup final vs Arsenal and helped deliver the cup treble (FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Cup). He left for Real Madrid in 2004 with 158 goals for Liverpool in all competitions and a Ballon d’Or (2001) as proof of his peak.
