Shaun Wright-Phillips is one of City’s great academy success stories: pure pace, direct dribbling, and that “Maine Road kid” energy. He broke through in the late 90s and became a key attacker as City climbed back up the divisions, then exploded in the Premier League under Kevin Keegan—hugging the touchline, burning full-backs and chipping in with goals. His form earned England caps and a big move to Chelsea in 2005, though he never quite hit the same heights there. He returned to City in 2008, stayed a popular squad option, and later moved on in 2011.
