Vincent Kompany’s Man City spell (2008–2019) is basically the club’s modern foundation: an elite centre-back, captain, and tone-setter who led the shift from “nearly” to serial winners. He combined front-foot defending with calm buildup, and his leadership was as valuable as his tackling. He made 360 appearances for City and captained multiple title sides. His defining moments include the 2012 derby-winning header that swung the title race and the outrageous 30-yard winner vs Leicester in May 2019 that put City on course for another league title. He left with 4 Premier League titles (plus domestic cups).
