Robinho’s Man City spell (2008–2010) was the original “statement signing” of the money era—City landed him on deadline day for a British-record £32.5m. He started with instant hype, scoring on his league debut vs Chelsea (a 3–1 loss), and soon had headline moments like a hat-trick vs Stoke in October 2008. But it never fully clicked long-term: he finished 2008–09 as City’s top scorer, then injuries and form issues derailed year two, leading to a Santos loan in January 2010. Overall: 41 league games, 14 league goals.
