Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City reign (Dec 2009–May 2013) was the first time the “new money” project turned into major trophies. He tightened City up, leaned on big personalities (Kompany, Touré, Silva) and built a side that could win ugly as well as sparkle. The breakthrough was the 2011 FA Cup, ending a long trophy drought, then the ultimate moment: the 2011–12 Premier League title, sealed by the “93:20” comeback vs QPR. Year two was messier—European frustration and losing the 2013 FA Cup final—so City sacked him in May 2013.
