İlkay Gündoğan at Man City (2016–2023, then a 2024 return) was the definition of “clutch, intelligent midfielder.” Not the loudest star, but the one who timed runs, controlled tempo, and scored when titles were on the line. He captained the 2022–23 treble side and wrote himself into folklore with two volleys in the 2023 FA Cup final vs United, including the fastest goal in final history. He also ended 2020–21 as City’s top league scorer (13) in a title win. After leaving for Barcelona in 2023, he re-signed for City in August 2024 on a one-year deal (with an option).
