Willie Donachie was a key Manchester City figure of the 1970s: a tough, consistent left-back who came through City’s youth setup and played for the first team from 1968–1980. He racked up 351 league appearances (2 goals) and became a regular at Maine Road after debuting in February 1970. Internationally he won 35 Scotland caps and was included in World Cup squads (1974, 1978). After retiring, he moved into coaching—working closely with Joe Royle and later returning to City’s staff in the late 1990s.
