Kevin Keegan became a Liverpool legend after joining from Scunthorpe United in 1971, forming a devastating partnership with John Toshack and becoming the energetic attacking heartbeat of Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley’s sides; he helped Liverpool win three First Division titles, two UEFA Cups and the 1974 FA Cup, before producing a superb performance in the 1977 European Cup final, tormenting Borussia Mönchengladbach defender Berti Vogts and winning the late penalty that sealed Liverpool’s first European Cup; Keegan then left for Hamburg that summer, having scored 100 goals in 323 appearances and helped transform Liverpool into a dominant force in both English and European football.
