Ray Houghton at Liverpool (1987–1992) was a clever, tireless wide player who made big moments look simple. Usually starting from the right, he mixed nonstop running with sharp movement into the box, often arriving at the perfect time rather than dribbling past three men. He was part of the late-80s title-winning side, winning the First Division in 1987–88 and 1989–90 and the FA Cup in 1989. His most famous Liverpool goal is the opener in the 1988 FA Cup final against Wimbledon—one of the game’s great upsets despite his strike. Consistent, selfless, and very effective.
