Emile Heskey at Liverpool (2000–2004) was less about raw goal numbers and more about what he enabled. Signed from Leicester, he was a powerful, selfless striker who ran channels, fought centre-backs, and created space for Michael Owen to explode into. At his best he linked play with clever lay-offs, pressed hard, and gave Liverpool a direct outlet—perfect for Houllier’s structured, counter-attacking side. He was part of the 2000–01 treble squad (FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Cup) and scored important goals in Europe and big away games. Critics wanted more finishing, but teammates loved him for the work he did that didn’t show up on highlight reels.
