George Dunlop was one of Linfield’s great goalkeepers and a central figure in the club’s dominant 1980s sides. The Belfast-born keeper joined the Blues in 1977 and went on to make well over 500 appearances for the club, combining sharp reflexes with huge consistency. During his Linfield spell he won a stack of honours, including multiple Irish League titles and Irish Cups, and he was named Ulster Footballer of the Year for 1980–81. He also reached the international stage, earning four Northern Ireland caps and being part of the squad for the 1982 World Cup. In simple terms, Dunlop was a trophy-laden Linfield mainstay.
