Linfield’s 3–2 win over Qarabag on 22 August 2019 was one of the club’s great European nights. It came in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League play-off round at Windsor Park, where Linfield beat the Azerbaijani champions despite going behind early. Mark Stafford equalised, and Shayne Lavery scored twice to put Linfield 3–1 up before a late Magaye Gueye penalty made it 3–2. The result mattered because Qarabag were seasoned European group-stage regulars, so Linfield’s win was a major shock. In the end, though, Qarabag went through on away goals after winning the second leg 2–1 in Baku.
