Gordon Strachan was a pivotal figure at Leeds United from 1989–1995—signed by Howard Wilkinson, made captain, and became the driving force of Leeds’ rise. He led them to the Second Division title in 1989–90 and then captained Leeds to the First Division title in 1991–92, the club’s last top-flight championship. His high-tempo, all-action style and leadership made him a fan favourite, and he was voted FWA Footballer of the Year (1990–91) while at Leeds.
