Gary Speed was a key figure for Leeds United in the 1990s—an energetic, left-sided midfielder who combined stamina, timing in the box, and leadership. He came through the youth system and became a first-team regular during Howard Wilkinson’s rebuild, featuring in the side that won the 1991–92 First Division title (Leeds’ last league championship). Speed was also part of the team that lifted the 1992 Charity Shield and helped Leeds establish themselves near the top end of the early Premier League. He made 300+ appearances for the club before leaving for Everton in 1996, and he remains fondly remembered as a model pro and fan favourite.
