Kalvin Phillips is a Leeds United academy product who became the heartbeat of their midfield under Marcelo Bielsa. Breaking into the first team in the mid-2010s, he grew from a box-to-box player into a disciplined “pivot” (often nicknamed the “Yorkshire Pirlo”) who protected the back line and started attacks. He was central to Leeds winning the 2019–20 Championship title and returning to the Premier League, then helped them finish 9th in 2020–21. After making 200+ appearances for his hometown club, he left for Manchester City in July 2022.
