Gary McAllister was a hugely influential midfielder for Leeds United, joining from Leicester City in 1990 and becoming a key part of Howard Wilkinson’s side that won the 1991/92 First Division title; known for his passing, intelligence, set-piece ability and leadership, the Scottish international formed an excellent midfield alongside Gordon Strachan, David Batty and Gary Speed, helping Leeds control games and create chances from central areas, and although he left for Coventry City in 1996, his contribution to the championship-winning team ensured his place among the most important Leeds players of the early Premier League era.
