Johnny Giles was one of the players who defined Leeds United’s greatest era. Signed from Manchester United in 1963, he became the cerebral force in Don Revie’s midfield, combining control, intelligence and bite alongside Billy Bremner. Across 12 years at Elland Road, he made 527 appearances and scored 115 goals in all competitions, helping Leeds win the Second Division title in 1963/64, the First Division in 1968/69 and 1973/74, the FA Cup in 1972, the League Cup in 1968 and two Inter-Cities Fairs Cups. More than the honours, Giles gave Leeds their rhythm and authority, which is why he remains one of the club’s true all-time greats.
