Allan Clarke was one of Leeds United’s greatest strikers and a key figure in Don Revie’s legendary side of the late 1960s and 1970s; nicknamed “Sniffer” because of his instinct for finding goals, Clarke joined Leeds in 1969 for a then-British record £165,000 and went on to score 151 goals in 366 appearances, while his most famous moment came in the 1972 FA Cup Final, when his diving header secured a 1–0 victory over Arsenal at Wembley, and he also helped Leeds win the 1973/74 First Division title, establishing himself as one of the club’s most important and clinical forwards.
