Robbie Keane is the Republic of Ireland’s record appearance-maker and goalscorer, finishing on 146 caps and 68 goals (1998–2016). A sharp, penalty-box striker with constant movement (and the trademark cartwheel celebration), he captained Ireland from 2006 and carried the attack across multiple qualifying cycles. His defining international moment came at the 2002 World Cup, scoring a stoppage-time equaliser against Germany; he netted three goals at that tournament overall. He also represented Ireland at Euro 2012 and Euro 2016, and set a record as the leading scorer in UEFA European Championship qualifying.
