Robbie Keane (1998–2016) is the Republic of Ireland’s record goalscorer and appearance-maker, finishing with 146 caps and 68 goals. A sharp, constantly moving striker rather than a classic target man, he thrived off clever runs, quick combinations and big-moment finishing—plus the trademark cartwheel celebration. His signature Ireland highlight is the 90+2’ equaliser vs Germany at the 2002 World Cup, a result that helped Ireland reach the last 16. He also scored in the tournament win over Saudi Arabia, led the line through Euro 2012 and Euro 2016, and captained Ireland for much of the 2000s and 2010s.
