Marcus Stewart had a short Ipswich Town spell, but it was hugely important. Signed from Huddersfield late in the 1999–2000 season, he helped fire Ipswich to promotion by scoring twice in the play-off semi-final at Bolton and again in the 4–2 final win over Barnsley at Wembley. He then became the star of George Burley’s outstanding 2000–01 Premier League side, scoring 19 league goals and 21 in all competitions as Ipswich finished fifth and qualified for the UEFA Cup. Across his Ipswich career he scored 37 goals in 93 appearances. He gave Town sharp finishing, clever movement, and one unforgettable peak.
