Matt Holland was one of Ipswich Town’s most important modern captains and a key figure in the club’s return to the Premier League in 2000. Signed from Bournemouth in 1997, he brought consistency, leadership, and a strong goalscoring threat from midfield. He captained Town to promotion through the 2000 First Division play-offs and then helped them finish fifth in the Premier League in 2000–01, one of the best seasons in club history. Holland made 259 league appearances and scored 38 league goals for Ipswich, while his overall tally is listed as 314 games and 45 goals in the club’s Hall of Fame records. He was twice voted Ipswich Town Player of the Year.
